It’s Tuesday, April 4 when we record this podcast: Matteo Flamigni, technical chief of Marco Bezzecchi, has recently landed at Bologna airport after a very long return journey from Argentina. Matteo is in the car, stuck in traffic: he finds it hard to speak, his voice is low since he celebrated Sunday evening.
“There were so many things to celebrate: Bez’s first MotoGP win; my first success as technical leader; the first for the VR46 team. In short, many reasons”.
For years alongside Valentino Rossi in the role of “telemetrist”, Flamigni celebrated dozens and dozens of successes, some even sensational; but the former as technical chief inevitably has a different flavour: “As chief technician you have the bike in hand at 360°, emotions are amplified. It was a great emotion. The responsibility is much greater, the work is very different from before, I follow many aspects”.
Before talking about Bezzecchi, in the podcast he compares the Ducati he met in 2011 and 2012 with Valentino Rossi and the one he found in 2022 with Marco. “It’s a completely different thing: now Ducati has become the guideline for all the other manufacturers”.
On the Bez boy: “He is exquisite, spontaneous, one of us, we feel good in company, he has a joke ready: there is always a happy atmosphere in the garage. He’s happy with what he does. And he has an exceptional family behind him ”.
In the podcast, Flamigni tells very well the relationship between Marco and his father Vito: his words make you emotional.
E il Bez pilota? “It’s an instinctive, very “hot”, who was initially in a hurry to prove his worth. We worked on it, she understood that results must be achieved step by step. From then on, she started listening to everyone, learning very quickly. Now she is putting a lot of his” of her into it.
In the podcast, it is also done a comparison between Bezzecchi and Bagnaia, between Bez and Bastianinibut also what it means to pass from a phenomenon like Valentino Rossi to another rider.
Many anecdotes told by Matteo Flamigni.
See you next week for a new episode of #atuttogas
