JERUSALEM – Around 120,000 Muslim worshipers attend Eid prayers in Masjid Al-Aqsa in occupied East Jerusalem on Friday, after weeks of Israeli aggression. This was revealed by the administration of the shrine.
The Eid prayer was carried out amid the high level of Israeli security around the compound, a government representative told Arabi 21.
“Israeli forces searched the congregation when they entered the gate of the mosque compound and confiscated several identity cards,” the government said as quoted by New Arab, Saturday (22/4/2023).
Israeli troops and settlers have stormed the al-Aqsa mosque compound several times during the month of Ramadan, which began on March 23.
In a particularly brutal raid by Israeli police, hundreds of pilgrims were injured and arrested.
As a result of that raid, Palestinian militants in the besieged Gaza Strip and in southern Lebanon fired rockets at Israel, resulting in Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
The stampede has not stopped worshipers from flocking to perform Friday prayers during Ramadan, with as many as 250,000 worshipers attending each week.
Israel often increases its aggression against Palestinians during Ramadan.
The Zionist state also used brutal force against Christians in Jerusalem during last week’s Holy Light ceremony.
