Denpasar Sound – The planned LNG terminal project in Mangrove, Sidakarya, Sanur, Denpasar by the Provincial Government of Bali is currently under negotiation.
This is because previously on March 14, 2023, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan refused to build the terminal.
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan’s rejection was addressed to the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya with a request that the plan to build an LNG Terminal and a clean gas pipeline network by PT Dewata Clean Energy should not be recommended.
Luhut’s reason for rejecting the terminal was because the first in 2022 the president had launched the Outline of the Kerthi Bali Economic Road Map Towards a Green, Resilient and Prosperous New Era. Which focuses on quality tourism.

And the second is the direction for the development of the Province of Bali, namely the transformation of the Balinese economy with the development of the creative/digital economy, fisheries, agriculture and trade sectors.
According to Luhut, the two directions of development aim to strengthen Bali as a tourist destination that carries the concept of sustainable development, is environmentally sound, and upholds local nobility values.
Responding to the rejection by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the Governor of Bali through a press release dated April 1 2023 said that Wayan Koster had written to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs.
In his letter, Wayan Koster requested that the LNG terminal project at Sidakarya Sanur Denpasar be continued.
This is because, according to the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, the project has received support from the community because it is for the sake of long-term strategic interests, namely Bali Mandiri Energi with clean energy.

“The point is that the people in Bali provide support for the implementation of these activities,” said Wayan Koster in the letter.
In the letter, the Governor of Bali hopes that the Coordinating Minister, Maritime and Investment, Luhut Panjaitan will reconsider his recommendation letter, as well as provide support and follow up on it, so that the process of building a special LNG terminal in Bali can be carried out immediately and provide benefits for the people of Bali.
