As much as some DC trolls accuse him of being cold and heartless, James Gunn is no iceberg.
The director of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, James Gunnwas fired from Marvel Studios after a series of rude tweets that he had posted a long time before on the Twitter social network came to light.
The day April 20, 2018the filmmaker, today the head of the new DCU, received a fateful call from Kevin Feige to announce bad news. According to the same director account, Feige alluded to the powers that be at Disneyas cause of sudden dismissal.
Despite Warner Bros hired him to direct ‘The Suicide Squad’Five months later, Marvel Studios hired him again to direct the third part of Guardians. But before getting to that moment, Gunn went through some very bad times.
For Gunn that was a blow. Very hard. Now, some time later, the director has opened up and revealed how he overcame that moment. But above all he has counted those who were by his side at that time.
Thanks to the support of the actors whom he himself hired, he was able to get out of the well into which he had been thrown.
Gunn’s exciting journey to come back
In an exciting journey he describes in an interview with Empire, Gunn talks about the emotional support he received from his fellow Guardians during the painful layoff period. In particular, Zoë Saldaña, Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff were very supportive.
Gunn:
“We went through this journey where we entered the belly of the beast, and I was kicked out, and the people I hired to bring to life saved me and brought me back into the fold.”
Gunn described the consequences of his firing as “hard”, but highlighted the love and support he received from his family and friends. It was this love that got him through the difficult time and to get hired again by Marvel Studios.
Gunn:
“They put me on the life raft. And now we can finish all this together. So when they see this footage, they’re reminded of this whole emotional journey that we’ve all been on.”
The filmmaker gratefully recalled how Saldana and her husband cooked him a meal the night after the layoff occurred, and how Gillan and Klementieff came to keep him company.
Gunn:
“But the things I think about from that moment are the love I received from my family and friends. I remember how Zoë and her husband came to cook me the night after it happened. How Karen and Pom came to hang out with me, to be my friends. We have this other story, of this group of people who made each other’s careers at the same time. We grew together in that sense. None of us were big stars when it started. Zoë was the greatest.”
