KATHMANDU – An airplane belonging to the Flydubai airline with the Kathmandu-Dubai route flew with a fire engine condition. It happened after hitting a bird on takeoff and is now heading to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Images shared on social media showed the plane appearing to be burning over Kathmandu.
Witnesses said they saw a burning plane in the sky over Kathmandu.
A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Jagannath Niroula, said in a statement to Reuters an engine of a Flydubai Boeing 737-800 plane with 167 people on board caught fire shortly after takeoff from Kathmandu and the fire was brought under control.
“Flydubai flight number 576, (Boeing 737-800) Kathmandu to Dubai flight normal now and continuing to its destination Dubai as per flight plan,” the civil aviation authority said in a tweet as quoted by Al Arabiya, Tuesday (25/4/2023).
A spokesman for Flydubai told Reuters the plane was scheduled to land in Dubai at 00:14 local Dubai time.
Meanwhile, as reported by NDTV, Sudan’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kirati shared on her Facebook account that the FlyDubai plane flew to its destination safely and urged everyone not to worry.
