What does HAL Laboratory need to work on a Kirby remake?
This creative revealed that HAL Laboratory is not only thinking about making Kirby remakes just for the sake of it, but that the studio’s goal is always “to offer a new gameplay experience.”
In the most recent remaster of the series, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, for example, this philosophy is reflected in the addition of minigames and the epilogue starring Magolor, something that was not present in the original Wii game.

Likewise, Kumazaki spoke about the future of Kirby games and confessed that the 2D and 3D titles of the IP can coexist or even also with “something completely different”, since all this is “within the scope” of the study, so we can expect everything in the future.
“(Kirby and the Forgotten Land) It’s really a game that really uses or even inherits the light-hearted tone and ease of play from Kirby 2D games. (…) And what we want to do going forward is continue to offer that unique 3D experience and not necessarily lock ourselves in the limits of existing genres,” said the director in an interview with IGN in the framework of the Game Developers Conference 2023 (GDC 2023).
