James Cameron wanted Michelle Rodriguez back for the Avatar sequels, but that won’t happen
Michelle Rodriguez finally clarifies why Trudy Chacon won’t be returning in any of the Avatar sequels. In the first film of the saga, the pilot Trudy betrayed the humans and helped the Na’vi in his battle against the troops of Miles Quaritch. During the confrontation, Trudy sacrifices herself to protect Pandora.
Michelle Rodriguez didn’t want Trudy back
In an interview with Variety, Rodriguez confessed that he asked James Cameron not to bring Trudy back in any of the upcoming Avatar movies.. The actress commented that she did not want to ruin the sacrifice of her character, in addition to mentioning that she has already returned from the dead many times in the movies. Next, we share part of her interview with Variety.
“Dude, when I saw Jim (Cameron) recently, he said, ‘I was thinking: What if Michelle came back? A lot of the other characters came back.’ I was like, ‘You can’t do that, I died a martyr.’ I came back in Resident Evil, I wasn’t supposed to. I came back on Machete, I wasn’t supposed to. I went back to Letty, I wasn’t supposed to. We can’t do it a fourth (time), that would be overkill!”
It’s unclear what plans Cameron had with Trudy, but the character of Michelle may have been a valuable ally to the Na’vi. However, the importance of Trudy’s sacrifice in the first Avatar movie makes the character’s possible return a mistake.
