The directors of Dungeons and Dragons have revealed that Monty Python was a big influence and they also wanted to add them to the film.
Attention SPOILERS. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has already been released and viewers are liking it a lot, and above all it is because of the humor and charisma of its characters.
In a recent interview with Collider, directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein explain how they wanted the Monty Pythons to be involved in the film.
“Well, that was probably the only vestige of the original draft that we ended up rewriting that can be seen. Granted, it was only one or two corpses that came back to life, but we thought it was a really fun idea and a way to structurally tell the story of these flashbacks.”
“So, in industry terms, we blew it up, which means we had a lot more dead bodies, a lot more deaths, and that allowed us to have the guy fall in the bathtub and all these funny feats. Our original idea was for the Monty Python guys to lend their voices to those corpses, but for various reasons, it didn’t happen. Above all, due to financial constraints and the fact that several members of the iconic group have passed away.”
Monty Python was a huge influence.
In another interview, the directors of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves revealed how difficult it is to make humor and not get into parody.
“We never want to go too far where it becomes a parody of fantasy movies, but we also wanted to be able to go from something creepy and traditional fantasy to a wacky, almost Monty Python-esque sequence.”
You have to remember that Monty Python has a very funny movie that parodies the stories of King Arthur, such as The Knights of the Square Table and His Crazy Followers (1975).
