In an article published on the game’s official website, the studio explained that it had “made the difficult decision to discontinue live support for Dreams after September 1, 2023 to shift our focus to an exciting new project.”
Players will still be able to play, create and share content about the game after September 1, but will no longer receive updates after this date. The game will also be migrated to a new server at the end of May; at which point players will have a 5GB memory limit for their creations. Current player creations will not count towards this limit: only those uploaded after server migration will count towards their memory limit.
Media Molecule notes that Dreams will not be withdrawn from sale on September 1st and that the game will still be available for purchase. Furthermore, he claims to be working on a completely new project, noting that:
“We’re not ready to talk about it yet, but we can confirm that it’s not Dreams 2 or the Dreams IP.
Speaking of the decision to end support, the firm’s statement reads:
We know it won’t be an easy message for everyone to hear, and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision. Dreams was a special project for Media Molecule and helping this nascent community of game developers, enthusiasts, creatives, collaborators and dreamers grow and express themselves remains one of the best things we’ve ever done. Thank you for being a part of it with us – we can’t wait for you to join us on our next adventure.
