After many years in silence, we finally know the truth. Disney has explained the firing of James Gunn after those tweets from the past.
Disney has finally spoken about the firing of James Gunn. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the former president of Los Angeles’ largest movie studio, Alan Horn, explained his thought process after firing the Guardians of the Galaxy director in 2018. This was due to a series of tweets from a decade ago. He also explained how he felt before rehiring the filmmaker.
Apparently, Alan Horn had a hunch that he had made the wrong decision in firing James Gunn. The director of Marvel Studios himself stated that the Disney executive felt that firing him was the right thing to do. And that the former president even felt bad for letting the filmmaker go in the first place. “Alan Horn felt bad for what he did,” said the current president of DC Studios and head of the reboot of the DC Universe in the cinema. “He did it because he thought it was the right thing to do.”
“I have a lot of appreciation for him,” said the former president of the study
Warner Bros. Discovery
For the first time in public Alan Horn commented that the way James Gunn presented himself after being fired showed how chivalrous he was.. The former Disney president echoed the filmmaker and said that rehiring him was the right thing to do. “Everything he did after the decision we made was first class, top notch,” Alan Horn said. “In the months that followed, he was a gentleman and we rehired him. It seemed the right thing to do. I hold him in high esteem.”
It was even revealed that Alan Horn, who is now a consultant at Warner Bros. Discovery, agreed and supported the company’s decision to name James Gunn co-CEO of DC Studios, where the director will oversee that superhero movie universe. However, the filmmaker’s involvement with Warner Bros. Discovery won’t be the first time the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 director has linked himself to the world of DC. We have already seen it before in The Suicide Squad (2021) and the Peacemaker series.
