Through his ventures La Granja TV Narrative and Fábrica, renowned film director Fernando Sariñana (“Amar te duele”, “Todo el poder”) launched the platform “From paper to screen”, with the firm intention of opening up new opportunities for future filmmakers.
The first stage of the initiative is already underway. Those interested must specify by email data such as name, age and the type of project they will enter (series or film), with the intention of receiving the contest rules. The idea or proposal submitted must be original.
Subsequently, applicants will be able to work on their proposal and comply with certain guidelines, such as signing the application form. This second stage includes from April 13 to May 14.
During the week on March 27 and April 10 there will be a conference tour with the theme “How to take your idea to Pitch Ready”, by the writer Carolina Rivera and Sariñana himself, who have more than 35 years of experience in the film industry.
Finally, the third stage considers a round of interviews to choose the winners. According to the information shared, the chosen ideas will have a minimum prize of one thousand dollars and, in case their project is sold, they will receive an additional bonus. It also opens the opportunity to participate in the development of the most outstanding initiatives. There will be a total of six winning proposals, between films and series.
Initiative with broad support
It is important to highlight that “From paper to screen” already has alliances with renowned film and writing institutions, such as the National School of Cinematographic Arts of the UNAM, Anahuac University, Iberoamerican University, ITESO, Tinta Escritores Audiovisuales y Cinematográficos de México, CECC , ESCINE, Tecnológico de Monterrey, CCC, SOGEM School of Writers, CENTRO and Faculty of Cinema.
Fernando Sariñana has been showrunner and executive producer. In his history as a director, he has films such as “La Leona”, “Mom went on a trip”, “Intimate Enemies”, “Niñas mal”, “Zero y van 4”, “Ciudades oscuras” and “Hasta morir”.
In the case of Carolina Rivera, as a screenwriter, she has participated in “Guerra de neighbours”, “Madre there are only two”, “Jane the Virgin”, “Luis Miguel: The Series”, “Amor sin reserva”, “Yerbamala” and “ Love”.
Both founded La Granja TV Narrative in order to create content of diverse genres, “that address the issues that concern and interest us in an entertaining way and with the best production values,” they informed the press.
Guidelines for Proposals
Some of the guidelines for series are: project title, genre, logline, main characters, brief synopsis of the second season, synopsis of the pilot, and references to productions similar to the proposed initiative.
Regarding films, it is necessary to cover elements such as project title, genre, one page and script. The one page should cover points such as the logline, protagonists, their motivations, the obstacles they will face and how the story ends, in addition to the synopsis.
