having Sam Wilson taken the mantle of Captain America in the UCM, many followers have wondered about the future of Steve Rogersthe original liberty sentinel played by Chris Evans. Since then the question of the actor’s return has been hovering over the fandom. And the actor is well aware of this.
Although there has been speculation about Evans’ appearance in the upcoming ‘Captain America 4’, the actor seems pleased to have passed the baton to Anthony Mackie. Even so, during a panel at the C2E2 de ChicagoEvans reflected on his great appreciation for the character and the eventuality of his possible return.
After Steve’s emotional farewell in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, the character’s fate in the MCU has been uncertain. In the movie, Rogers says goodbye like an old man afterwards.
In ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’Rogers was rumored to be living on the Moon, but his current whereabouts are unknown.
Evans’ love for Steve Rogers and his respect for the legacy of Captain America
“It’s hard, because look, I love that role deeply. It means a lot to me, and really… I think there are more Steve stories to tell, for sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very careful with him. He’s transformed me, you know, he’s like this shiny little thing that I have to love so much, and I just don’t want to spoil the character in any way.”
Although Evans admits that he loves telling stories as Steve and working with the creative team at Marvel, he isn’t sure if he wants to reprise the role.
“I’ve been a part of something that was so special at the time and, in a way, it really turned out so well. As much as I’m connected to that role and I love participating in telling those stories and working with those people, right now I don’t feel like it’s the best.”
Evans seems content with the legacy he’s left behind in the MCU, despite the uncertain circumstances under which he cast Mackie for the role.
The actor has expressed his desire to preserve the legacy of the character he has played for so many years, ensuring that he does not want to harm his image in any way.
Nevertheless, Evans admits it’s hard to say goodbye to a character who has meant so much to him, but he is confident, as is everyone else, that Mackie will carry the mantle of Captain America in a dignified and respectful manner.
