NTB.Suara.com – Member of the Republic of Indonesia DPR from the Democrat party, Benny K Harman asked President Jokowi to issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) if he views the Asset Confiscation Law as urgent.
Benny explained that Jokowi has the authority to issue Perppu for confiscation of assets. According to Benny, the Perppu on appropriation of assets is far more important to issue than the Job Creation Law.
“About the Asset Confiscation Law? If indeed President Jokowi views the Asset Confiscation Law as an important solution to overcoming the problem of corruption, President Jokowi can issue a Perpu. What is not as important as the Perpu on Job Creation is being issued, let alone a Perppu related to asset confiscation. Please Menkopolhukam notify President Jokowi to immediately issue Perpu on Asset Confiscation. Do you want? Dare?,” said Benny quoted from his tweet at @BennyHarmanID
The Asset Confiscation Law resurfaced after Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD asked the DPR to speed up deliberating the bill so that prosecution of assets resulting from corruption could be carried out. According to Mahfud, the absence of a supporting law is an obstacle for law enforcement officials to seize corruptors’ ill-gotten assets.

However, Mahfud’s discourse still has not received real support from the DPR RI.
