MEXICO CITY – A group of armed men stormed a resort where dozens of tourists spent the weekend at Mexico center and opened fire. At least six adults and a 7 year old child were killed.
Officials in the Cortazar district of Guanajuato state said in a statement that an eighth victim was seriously injured in the midday attack on the resort of La Palma. The statement did not speculate on a possible motive for the incident.
“After the shooting, the assailants destroyed the spa shop and took security cameras before fleeing,” the officials said.
Three women, three men and a child died as quoted from CBS News, Sunday (16/4/2023).
A video posted on social media shows several people in swimsuits running around crying, screaming and hugging their children.
Mexican troops and police, assisted by helicopters, are searching for the attackers.
Guanajuato, an agricultural and industrial center, has been Mexico’s most violent state for years. Jalisco’s New Generation drug cartel has been at war with local criminal gangs, including the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel, which appears to be backed by the Sinaloa cartel.
