KIEV – Ukrainian troops in the city of Artyomovsk may consider withdrawing amid the onslaught of Russian troops.
This statement was made by President Vladimir Zelensky’s Economic Adviser, Alexander Rodnyansky, in an interview with CNN on Tuesday (28/2/2023).
Alexander Rodnyansky stated that Russia was trying to besiege Artyomovsk (called Bakhmut in Ukrainian) using the best troops from Wagner’s private military company.
He told CNN’s Isa Soares that, “Kiev troops will withdraw or strategically surrender the city if they believe the costs of defending it outweigh the benefits.”

Rodnyansky added: “The Ukrainian military will obviously consider all options.”
“So far, they have controlled the city, but, if necessary, they will strategically withdraw because we are not going to sacrifice all of our people for nothing,” claimed presidential advisers, arguing it is ultimately up to the military to decide if and when withdrawal required.
Rodnyansky stated that the area west of the city was fortified and that if the Kiev forces were to withdraw from Artyomovsk, the Russian troops would not be able to advance quickly.
“Make no mistake, our counterattack will happen soon,” he said firmly.
