If a few months ago we saw how WhatsApp announced its Communities, this time it has moved to launch two new features thought around groupspossibly the biggest hotbed of our phones.
The first, group access control. This works with groups that are created using an invite link, so anyone who receives it can jump right into it. With this new function, the administrator receives a list with those people who have requested access. And you can approve or deny it one by one.
Designed to control unwanted access and to locate forgotten groups
This function is ideal for those who create semi-public WhatsApp groups, perhaps because they do not want to use an alternative such as Telegram, and may lose control of the dissemination of the access link. In those cases, the story may end with the group disbanding due to having too many unwanted accesses.
With this new function we have an interface very similar to that of follow-up requests on Instagram, but for specific WhatsApp groups.
The other function allows quickly search WhatsApp groups that we have in common with a specific contact. The natural idea behind this function is simply to see a list of groups in which both we and, say, Julián Pádel are.
However, it has another added function: locate groups whose name we don’t even remember, but we do remember someone who was also in it. Searching for “Julián Pádel” will now show all the groups that we have with him, perfect for locating Dani’s bachelor party. Customs.
The latter could already be done by entering the profile of each specific WhatsApp contact, but now it can also be done by searching by name. If we have our contact book using company names or similar references as if they were surnames, more potential utility.
