After domain of the anticyclone still underway, with plenty of sunshine and an exceptionally mild climate, Italy will face one decisive change in weather.
From Sunday in fact one disturbance it will invest the country starting from the North, to then slide along the entire peninsula at the beginning of next week. Its passage will be accompanied by locally heavy rainfall – even the snow will return -, da very strong winds and by the irruption of cold air of arctic origin, which will be responsible for a significant drop in temperatures which will return below the average, with a wintry weather.
The forecast for the next few hours
Today the anticyclone will lead to stable and sunny weather in most of Italy. The North remains on the margins, touched by a perturbation in transit across the Alps, which in our regions will cause an increase in clouds accompanied in any case by little and weak rainfallwhich will involve only the Alpine arc and part of Liguria.
More specifically, in Emilia Romagna, in the central-southern regions and on the major islands, mostly sunny weather, except for the passage of thin veils and scattered clouds over the Tyrrhenian regions, in the evening also in Emilia Romagna and over a large part of the Centre. In the rest of the North until cloudy or very cloudy, with some rains arriving on the central-western alpine areas (snow line above 2000 meters); some isolated rain also on central-eastern Liguria and in the north of Friuli. In the evening, scattered rainfall over the Alps, snow above 1800-2000 meters, but also possible on the plains between northern Piedmont and Lombardy.
Temperature maximum close to 20 degrees, with peaks locally even beyond, in Emilia Romagna and in the Centre-South; slight drop in temperatures in the rest of the North, with values close to normal, around 15-16 degrees.
Weak southern winds, moderately strengthening between the afternoon and evening on the Ligurian Sea, the Sardinian Sea, the western Tyrrhenian Sea, the Sicilian Channel and the northern Adriatic where the seas locally will tend to become a little rough. Calm or little moved the other basins.
The weather forecast for tomorrow
Saturday clouds over the Triveneto associated with a local instability, mostly between the morning and early afternoon, with isolated phenomena on Trentino Alto Adige, upper Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia; snowline above about 1600-1700 metres. A few snowflakes above 1200-1500 m, mostly in the morning, even on the border ridges of Valle d’Aosta and upper Piedmont. Over the rest of Italy we will have predominantly sunny weather, with some more significant cloud cover in the morning over the Tyrrhenian regions, in the south and in eastern Sicily.
Minimum temperatures slightly increasing in the North-East and Centre-South; highs decreasing on the Triveneto and in western Sardinia, increasing on the plains of the North-West due to the effect of Foehn winds. Values in general very mild for the period, with peaks around 20-22 degrees.
Westerly winds intensifying a bit everywhere, in particular up to Libeccio on the Ligurian coast, Mistral in Sardinia and in the Sicilian Channel, Foehn in the North-West.
Weather forecast for Sunday
In the morning rising clouds in the north and in Tuscany with local rainfall in the western Alps and between La Spezia and upper Tuscany. In the afternoon it worsens over much of the north with scattered rains and showers, less likely in Piedmont, but still rapidly decreasing from the west. Rains and showers arriving between the afternoon and evening also on the central Tyrrhenian regions, in Umbria and Marche. Still quite stable weather elsewhere. Snow quota around 1400-1800 meters in the Alps, further lowering in the evening.
Temperature declining highs in the Northwith no major changes elsewhere.
Westerly or southwesterly winds to moderate or tense on westerly seas. The Ligurian seas were very rough, the other western seas and the offshore Ionian were locally rough, the remaining basins were slightly rough.
