The streaming sector has changed a lot in the last decade due to the arrival of numerous platforms that offer an unaffordable amount of content. If you don’t have two or three services at home, surely you don’t get to all the releases and every week you are forced to select what to watch. And what happens with Apple TV + is an example.
We cannot forget that it was Netflix who paved the way in Spain and many series that were on everyone’s lips at the time have aged quite poorly. Today they would go unnoticedbut they were television series starring big names, something that was new at the time.

Movies turning 30 in 2023
At present, with the amount of news that comes to us through different platforms and the highly questionable quality of some, that they have a striking cast is often ignored. Or at most it only serves to attract the followers of very specific stars.
The latter was what came to mind with the release of a thriller as dignified and entertaining as Liaison, from Apple TV+. A story made in various countries with cyber espionage, well filmed action and two names as well known as Vincent Cassel and Eva Green. A series that would have been a hit years ago.
But Apple TV + has surpassed itself in terms of distribution with its latest novelty: A challenging future. We are talking about a dystopian series about the climate crisis starring unrivaled stars from the world of cinema and other well-known names, such as Meryl Streep, Edward Norton, Kit Harington, Diane Lane, Sienna Miller…

The cast doesn’t matter much anymore
It is clear that the lack of promotion that practices Apple TV+ plays against knowing the novelty. There have not been many media that have echoed this launch through news or criticism of the series, but even so, one has the feeling that we are already numb to the situation.
The trends are the ones that mark what is worth paying attention to and right now they point to the fantastic series, something to which we will not put problems. In 2022, The House of the Dragon (winner of the Hobby Award for best series of the year), The Rings of Power, Sandman, Stranger Things or Wednesday were some of the series that sounded the most.
Possibly this 2023 will continue the trend, or perhaps it will turn the other way. Not long ago it was the political series that aroused the most debate, although today it is a genre almost removed from today.
What is clear is that removing some names, the cast almost does not matter. It’s more, the distinction between a movie star and a series star is almost nil because the vast majority of well-known actors have appeared in one.
The big question then is the path that remains for the producers and platforms, if it compensates them to pay for the caches of these figures. What’s more, The Sandman shows the opposite example, a series with not too expensive names that swept for one season.
Of course, we must not forget that there are less tangible benefits but also important, such as reputation. Having a series with Meryl Streep, for example, gives name and long-term viewers beyond the weeks of launch.
There is also another detail that cannot be discussed: Meryl Streep in her most functional jobs acts better than most actresses and actors.
In any case, it is clear that the sector has been changing and with it the reception of the series. The distribution no longer matters so much, there are other details that are more valuable.
I encourage you to tell us in the comments which actors or actresses would make you watch a series, even if its theme does not attract you in the slightest. I’m sure there are quite a few!
