Today was a high point for shareholders of German car manufacturers. Because both BMW and Volkswagen held a pat on the back. At Volkswagen, the focus was on the increased profit in 2022 and the EV plans of the company were emphasized even more. Especially the arrival of an electric car under 25,000 euros remains a spearhead for the brand for the people.
From ID.2 to ID.7
First things first, by 2026, Volkswagen intends to launch no less than 10 new electric models. Or in simple math: roughly three new models per year. Known entries are the extended version of the ID. Buzz, the facelift of the ID.3, the sporty ID.3 GTX, flagship ID.7 and the ID.2. The latter model in particular was eagerly awaited during today’s shareholders’ meeting. Because although VW boasted last year with a price below 25,000 euros, the current global climate may throw a spanner in the works.
“None of that,” said Volkswagen. Because the German brand continues to put the ID.2 on the market with a price below 25,000 euros. This would make the electric brother of the Polo barely more expensive than VW’s smallest. Although you can of course also ask whether the basic price of 22,600 euros for a bare Polo is not completely out of whack these days. What other electric models does Volkswagen have in store? An electric alternative to the Passat Variant is undoubtedly also planned, along with a sporty GTX derivative.
