BELGRADE – Serbia has yet to agree to European Union (EU) “normalization” proposals on its relations with the breakaway province of Kosovo, President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday (28/2/2023) during an appearance on national TV.
He added that Belgrade faced threats from Brussels, but still refused to discuss recognizing Kosovo and its accession to the United Nations.
His words came a day after the EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said on Twitter that Belgrade and Pristina supported a French-German proposal for a “path to normalization” of relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti later said he had offered to sign off on the plan, but Vucic had refused to do so, even though he appeared to have “approved”.

But on Tuesday, Vucic said the two sides “didn’t agree”, but only agreed to continue talks.
He added, “Nothing was signed in Brussels.”
“Serbia is ready to implement many (points) of this plan,” Vucic said, but Belgrade still does not want to discuss “mutual recognition” as well as Kosovo’s accession to the UN.
“Serbia has not made a secret agreement,” the president said.
He added, “Not a single deal was hidden.” He insisted, “Not hiding anything.”
