Surely many of us who read us have gone through that stage of activating Windows illegally, which although it is quite common to do with cracks in unofficially downloaded versions (wink, wink), is something that Windows tries to combat in each update. However, a case has recently come to light in which an engineer from the company itself had to resort to an unofficial crack to activate the system on a PC.
The incident started when a user from South Africa You bought a genuine copy of Windows 10 for $200, but you couldn’t activate it despite following the usual procedures. After unsuccessfully contacting customer service, the case was escalated to Microsoft’s engineering department. The next day, official support logged into the user’s PC and used a simple command to activate Windows. However, what was surprising was that the command in question was an unofficial crack.

It is true that engineers are often under great pressure to solve problems in a short time, which can lead them to resort to quick but unauthorized solutions. In this case, the Microsoft engineer used a script entered via PowerShell from the URL hxxps://massgrave(.)dev/get | iex. This action, while allowing Windows activation, was contrary to Microsoft’s license terms and is considered illegal.
Finally, when asking for a response to the strange situation, Microsoft’s response was: “We strive to provide best-in-class support to our customers. The technique you described would be against our policy. We are investigating this fact and will take appropriate steps to ensure proper procedures are followed with regard to customer support for our products and services.”
