The survey carried out by StageUp and Ipsos reveals which clubs – in Serie A – have had the highest growth in the catchment area. On the other hand, the supporters of Dea and Bologna decrease
We can speak of a real boom. Torino fans are increasing, and not by a small amount: the growth of fans of the faith of the granata has been estimated at around a substantial 8% compared to the previous season. Thus, Torino reaches 450,000 fans scattered throughout Italy, also driven by the roots of its supporters in every region thanks to the Toro Clubs present everywhere. And it consolidates itself in eighth place in the general standings, with Lazio seventh (520,000 fans) which is no longer so far away. It is a considerable progression that allows Turin to earn the Champions League area among the Serie A clubs that have recorded the greatest increase in following and catchment area from one year to the next. The grenade club rises to fourth place among the clubs in our championship in the special classification drawn up by growth in fans, behind Udinese (+16%, 179,000 fans), Milan (+13%, 4,167,000 fans) and of Fiorentina (+10%, 621,000 supporters). The data emerges from the periodic Sponsor Value research by the Bolognese StageUp, chaired by Giovani Palazzi, and by Ipsos.

A study activity born more than twenty years ago, to be precise in the 2000-2001 season, which is renewed year after year taking into consideration the audition of Italian sporting and entertainment events. If Udinese, Milan, Fiorentina and Turin stand out for a significant leap forward, there are those who, on the contrary, have recorded a greater decrease. In this case, the issue concerns Atalanta, which has lost an estimated 10% of its fans, settling at 314,000, and also Bologna, with a minus 9%, and a base of supporters that has dropped a season to 310,000 fans.

The overall figure for Serie A tells of a scenario of popular passion substantially stable compared to the previous year, net of the fluctuations that affect the individual clubs in detail. The twenty teams in Serie A 2022-2023, in fact, have a total of 24 million and 562 thousand fans. Compared to the last championship it means 0.16% less: looking closely, in its entirety, it is a macroscopic number. Because it tells how 41% of the Italian population supports a Serie A football team. In terms of absolute values, the hard core of supporters is cemented along the triangle made up of Juventus (the most loved by Italians with 8,056,000 fans) , from Milan and Inter: these three teams together account for 67% of the Serie A catchment area. Napoli are very fast towards their third Scudetto and Roma are a treasure trove of passion: they are respectively fourth (2,636,000 fans) and fifth (1,818,000 fans) in the general classification.

As mentioned, Juventus is the most loved by Italians: it is first in the general classification of Serie A supporters. In second place is Milan, third is Inter (3,919,000), then Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina, Lazio, Turin, Atalanta, Bologna, Sampdoria (242,000), Verona (196,000), Monza (190,000), Lecce (180,000), Udinese, Salernitana (135,000), the Sassuolo (77,000), Cremonese and Spezia (67,000) and Empoli (48,000).
