On the pitch without a coach. In complete self-management in the most delicate moments of the match, but also for getting ready on the pitch and making substitutions during the match. All this fell into a youth football reality, specifically in an Under 12 formation and in another Under 10. The initiative came from Juventus, during the first “Torneo dello Strait – Juventus Academy Italia” which took place last weekend in Messina. From an idea of the technical manager of the club’s grassroots activities, Paolo De Ceglie, former footballer of the first team at the time of Conte as coach, the teams took to the field without the traditional technical support: the coaches (Niello for the Under 12 and Battaglia per l’Under 10) took a seat in the grandstand with their parents.
THE OBJECTIVES

Having to make decisions independently, the two teams have developed a sense of responsibility applied to the event and valued the leadership within the group. The field paid off, since the Under 12s reached the quarter-finals and the Under 10s won their category. The growth of young athletes also in terms of management and self-discipline is one of the objectives set by the club at a youth level, closely linked to school training. “The good technical value expressed by a football event is essential that it is also associated with a good school education – explained Gigi Milani, supervisor of the Juventus Academy and the one who discovered as children, among others, Fagioli and Miretti -. Football and school are two aspects that must go hand in hand in the growth of young football players”. The tournament, sponsored by the Municipality and the University of Messina, was attended by 41 teams from eight regions (Sicily, Calabria, Basilicata, Puglia, Campania, Tuscany, Lombardy and Piedmont). The experiment could be replicated on other occasions.
