Amazon has made thousands of layoffs that have affected Twitch, the streaming platform has seen 400 workers leave out of the 9,000 in total and blames the current world economic situation.
almost half a thousand employees at twitch have been affected by these cuts announced last Monday through a memorandum by the New Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.
The service company has fired people in the Amazon Web Services, RRSS, Twitch and advertising divisions. All this comes days after its previous CEO -Emmett Shear- resigned from his position.
According to reports from Polygon, the workers were not told if they were affected by the layoffs before they were announced, they still do not know and they will know “early next week at the latest.”
Two employees have confirmed this to the outlet where one said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy’s update on the layoffs was confusing among staff.
“It disappoints me to share the news in this way before it can be communicated directly to those affected, but confirmation of this difficult news directly from me is important,” Clancy wrote in the email to staff.
The update via twitch blog he blames these layoffs on the “current global economic situation”, stating that the growth in users and profits has not met expectations.
“In order to sustainably run our business, we have made the difficult decision to downsize our workforce,” Clancy continued.

“As a company focused on building a community together, this decision was incredibly difficult and we did not make it without much thought,” is one of the things that reads at the beginning of the statement.
This is the 2nd round of layoffs at Amazon this year, with more than 18,000 in January, only back then it was largely focused on Amazon Stores; including Comixology.
It is clear that the symbol of Twitch is “to inspire, grow and maintain our streamers around the world” but at the moment not to maintain these employees.
