WASHINGTON – Audrey Hale, a transgender woman who shot and killed six people at Covenant School in Nashville, was treated for “emotional breakdown” when she was 28.
“He bought seven rifles from five different firearms stores and kept them at home,” Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said during a press conference on Tuesday (28/3/2023).
“Hale’s parents believe their child shouldn’t have a gun,” Drake said.
However, they were only aware of the one gun Hale had bought and sold, when in reality there were seven more hidden around the house.
Of all the firearms, at least two of which police believe were legally obtained.
Three of the weapons, two semi-automatic rifles and a pistol, were used in Monday’s shooting, which killed three nine-year-old students, as well as a substitute teacher, the principal and a guard.
A sawed-off shotgun and another shotgun were found in Hale’s house, along with “other evidence”.
A former student at the private Christian school, Hale had planned the attack on Coventry in great detail, according to Drake.
