According to some sources, more than 30 horses were used on the set that day. All horses were supplied by The Devil’s Horsemen, a new supplier of horses for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power since the series moved its production from New Zealand to the UK after the first season. This is the first known casualty of a horse in the 50-year history of The Devil’s Horsemen, who have worked on other productions including Justice League, Game of Thrones and The Crown. After the horse collapsed, everyone was asked to leave the set for 30-45 minutes while the body was removed. After the brief hiatus, production resumed.
