Egbers discussed the situation this afternoon with the management of the NOS. According to the relevant Volkskrant article, the presenter showed transgressive and intimidating behavior at the editorial office of NOS Sport. For example, he would have bullied a female colleague with whom he had had an affair.
In the piece, Egbers expresses regret for his actions. “I look back on this whole period as an exceptionally sad one, in which I made mistakes. I regret that. Unfortunately, I cannot reverse it.”
The spokesperson also says that the NOS will talk “with all employees who appear in the article”.
Journalist Marijn de Vries ‘overwhelmed’
Marijn de Vries is grateful for the large number of responses she has received in response to her column in the NRC. In Friday’s column, the journalist and former cyclist wrote about her own experiences with misconduct at NOS Sport.
“Overwhelmed by the enormous amount of responses to my column. I can’t even read them all. Let alone that I can respond to everything,” De Vries writes on Instagram. “But: thank you. I feel that you have gathered around me and that means a lot.”
De Vries wrote in a column on Friday about undesirable behavior by an employee of NOS Sport and how she reported it in 2016. Nothing was done with the report, she writes. A year ago she reported the same incident again, but even then De Vries did not feel taken seriously.
The NOS acknowledged in a response that there was contact with De Vries about the report last year and acknowledged that things had not been done properly.
