A spokesperson for the Amsterdam-Amstelland Security Region says that practice ammunition is used during the exercise, so that shots may be heard.
Western Docklands and Olympic Stadium
The exercise starts today in the Westelijk Havengebied, where police and defense surveillance units will be working and where extras will also be present, who will play the role of victim. Tomorrow the exercise will be moved to the Olympic Stadium.
City districts, businesses and residents at the exercise locations were informed in advance about the exercise and any nuisance. A few roads have been closed off around the Olympic Stadium.
Last time in 2017
The last major terror exercise of this size was in 2017, the spokesman said. The security region emphasizes that there is no increased risk of a terrorist attack in Amsterdam or the surrounding area.
With these kinds of exercises, the emergency services are prepared for various types of incidents. “For example, we organize training and exercises related to various risks, such as flooding, prolonged power outages and terrorism.”
