As such, the procedure, in case of suspension for serious or very serious defectIt is always the same: fix the fault and pass the Inspection again. Most have to go down this path due to failures that, in the long run, tend to be more recurring than they seem.
This is why, whether it is a more modern car or one that already has years behind it, it is recommended that before passing the ITV an general review of all elements more important. This way we will avoid the ITV being rejected and having to return later.
Failures in the lighting and lighting system
The sum of minor and serious defects by lighting or signage each year it usually amounts to more than 8,540,000, according to data from the Ministry. They are the most frequent failures in all vehicles, but also the easiest to fix.
In the ITV they basically check two functions: they observe that all the lights (dipped, position, fog lights, brake lights…) be well and that setting is correct. From there, the most common failure is that one is melted or that it is of a different color than the regulation one.
Tires with bad tread
The state of the tires is another of the most common failures. The good condition of this element is of vital importance to guarantee the safety of the driver because they are the point of contact between the car and the asphalt. According to the Law, the tires on the same axle must be of the same type, have the same measurements and the same drawing, the latter of which is most often checked. That is why we must make sure that the dimensions are those indicated according to the official technical certificate of your car.
To maintain the condition of the tires, periodically check the pressure levels and practice responsible driving without exceeding speed limits and avoiding sudden acceleration and braking.
Deformations on the outside
The poor condition of the vehicle’s body can mean the suspension of the ITV, so it is always important to check that everything is in place, even if it seems to us that everything is in order.
And it is that the problem does not come from scratches, but from deformations in the bumpers, the rear-view mirrors or even in the headlights. In this test it is also checked that the body does not have any sharp surface, since it would mean a serious failure.
The brakes don’t work well
The fact that the brakes do not work correctly puts both the safety of the driver and the rest of the vehicles at risk. That is why during the inspection of the ITV what is done is to use a machine which is known as frenometer.
To do this, the vehicle is placed on a platform and the braking force, the difference in axles and the possible fluctuation of the moving vehicle are detected. The technicians will guide you during the inspection of how we have to carry out this test so we should not worry. Also, this is one of the usual points for which the ITV is not approved.
Excess polluting emissions
Vehicles suspended for excess polluting emissions they grew to high levels in the years, being a test that watches with great attention.
In it, ITV operators use two systems to measure emissions. They inspect, on the one hand, Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles, connecting an electronic machine that is the one that warns of the failure; and on the other, the Euro 4, to which a probe is inserted through the exhaust pipe. From here, the operators detect if there are defects or not.
The most common in this type of case is that it is due to the EGR valveWell, diesel cars they generate a lot of soot and this clogs the valves, although it can also be fixed in other ways, such as by regeneration, which is quite cheap (approximately 30 euros) until, in the most modern cars, it is due to a broken filter in the tube exhaust that prevents fat particles from going into the atmosphere. In your case, the arrangement can go up to 1,000 euros.
