It was in the year 2001 when Tyler Gressle, owner of Tyler The Great Warrior, was diagnosed with a very rare and dangerous type of liver cancer. To be saved, he had to undergo several surgeries and spend a lot of time in the hospital.

Tyler Gressle’s situation is one no child should be put through. This is why the Make-A-Wish Foundation decided to help him make one of his dreams come true in order to fill him with illusion. So, Gressle created the original sketches for Tyler The Great Warrior, which were used by Kazuki Takahashi, creator of Yu-Gi-Oh! to design the final letter. Konami then manufactured it and delivered it to Gressle some time later.
