WASHINGTON – This man named Paul Karason has blue skin after taking health supplements for years. His figure was once famous and now reappears.
Paul Karason, who suffers from various conditions including dermatitis, takes a mixture of silver compounds to prevent his skin from peeling.
According to an Inside Edition episode from 2008, the Washington native also began applying the mixture to her skin, causing her to develop argyria, a rare medical syndrome caused by silver poisoning from dietary supplements.
Known as “The Blue Man” and “Papa Smurf” because of his bluish skin, Paul, who was known as the “Blue Man” and “Papa Smurf” because of his bluish complexion, started drinking a homemade colloidal silver mixture after reading an advertisement in New Age magazine that said it promotes health and rejuvenation. That claim is not proven.
The mixture featuring tiny silver ions and nanoparticles mixed in the liquid, caused Paul’s skin to completely change color.
He admits not realizing it until a friend pointed it out to him.
“A friend who had not seen me for a long time came and asked what I had done to myself,” Paul, who was born with fair skin and red hair, told Inside Edition.
She adds that having blue skin offers several advantages, including never getting sunburned.
However, Paul notes, he does not enjoy the stares he receives because he looks different from other people.
