Following the accident that occurred with Miguel Oliveira in the second lap of the MotoGP GP in Portimão, Marc Marquez was given a penalty of two long lap penalties to be served at the Argentine GP, but… in the crash, the Spanish rider suffered a fracture in his right hand which will prevent him from participating in the next GP, which will be held this weekend at the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit (HERE THE TV TIMETABLE ).
For this reason, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel has confirmed that, in light of the announcement of Marc Marquez’s non-participation in the upcoming Michelin Grand Prix of Argentina, the double long lap penalty will be applicable in the first GP in which the driver will take part. Marc could then serve out the penalty at one of his favorite tracks, the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, home of the third GP of the season (April 15-16).
Below is the document of the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel:
“On 26 March 2023, at 14:06:02, during the MotoGP race of the Tissot Grand Prix of Portugal, at turn 3 the number 93 rider was excessively aggressive and caused a crash involving the number 88 rider.
For the above reasons, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel has imposed a double long lap penalty for the race of the Michelin Grand Prix of Argentina in accordance with articles 3.2.1 and 3.3.2.3.
Following the decision of the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel, taken on 26/03/2023 at 15:13, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel clarifies its decision regarding applicability.
Considering the injury that emerged and the non-participation of Marc Marquez, rider number 93, at the Michelin Grand Prix of Argentina, and in order to comply with the decision taken by the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel, the double long lap penalty it will be discounted by the rider in the next MotoGP race in which he will participate”.
