The motorcyclist who the night between 1 and 2 June 2010 overwhelmed Lorenzo Guarnieri, a 17-year-old boy, will have to compensate the insurance company of which he was a client e pay 700,000 euros, plus 35,000 in legal fees. This is what was established by the Court of Appeal of Florence and reported by the newspaper Il Tirreno.
The man he was in a state of intoxication and, in addition to alcohol, the load of psychiatric drugs was at least three times the limit beyond which one enters positivity to drugs. The definitive sentence: 2 years and 8 months confirmed in Cassation, with abbreviated rite.
From that tragedy was born a national awareness campaign capable of changing the penal code with the introduction of the crime of vehicular homicide (March 2016). The amount in the title of the article is that compensated to the victim’s family members. Denied in the first instance the company’s recourse against the insured – for the positivity to alcohol and drugs at the time of the accident – is now recognized on appeal.
From that accident the Lorenzo Guarnieri Association was born in 2010 to remember Lorenzo and to protect the victims of the road.
