Although they are two very different sagas, The Last of Us and The Lord of the Rings have something in common, thanks to the different creatures that appear in both.
When they made the Lord of the Rings movies, a company was created for their special effects. This is Wētā FX, which today is one of the most important in the world and has been in charge of sagas as impressive as James Cameron’s Avatar and HBO Max’s The Last of Us.
Now, they have revealed that Gino Acevedo, the genius responsible for designing and sculpting such an important character in The Lord of the Rings as Gollum, has also been in charge of the infected known as Bloater (Swollen) that we saw in the fifth episode of The Last of Us. This is revealed by the supervisor of Wētā FX, Simon Jung:
“Gino Acevedo was very involved in the creation of the Bloater. He figured out all the proportions and some of the growths and yeah, it was a combination of the game reference and what we had gotten from the prosthetic suit, and then what we had done in terms of concept work, and then also some unreleased concept work from Naughty. Dog, which Neil was generous enough to let us take a look at.”
“It was amazing to have him on board knowing that Craig Mazin was a huge Lord of the Rings fan, when he heard that he was pretty impressed as well.” Said Dennis Yoo, Wēta FX’s animation supervisor.
The Last of Us and The Lord of the Rings
The series has different very shocking infected.
“Speaking of nightmares, that’s still disturbing. She took a long time to sell the fact that she’s a girl, or that she used to be a girl 20 years ago before she fully matured into that Clicker state. That it’s a girl, because her proportions were really hard to sell because you don’t have eyes or you don’t have a nose, you don’t really have a forehead or something that you would immediately visually recognize as child proportions where everything is a little off stopover place. Both sagas will give a lot to talk about in the coming years.
They have already confirmed that there will be a second season of The Last of Us and also, they want to do a third, so we will see more adventures of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in the coming years. While The Lord of the Rings will have more episodes of The Rings of Power, they are also preparing an animated film about The War of the Rohirrim that will focus on the untold story of Helm’s Deep. Without forgetting that Warner Bros. Discovery intends to make many installments of the Universe created by the legendary JRR Tolkien.
