Tomorrow Extinction Rebellion activists will try to block the A12 in The Hague for the sixth time. That led to hundreds of arrests last time, 768 to be exact.
The arrested demonstrators refused to leave the A12, even after the police had called them to do so several times. Some of them attached themselves to the asphalt to make arrest more difficult.
Throwing objects down
A spokesperson for the municipality explains to the regional broadcaster Omroep West that this decision was reached because sympathizers from above threw things down to help the demonstrators last time.
According to the spokesperson, it is not the intention that the screens prevent people from seeing the demonstration. “Of course we ensure that independent observers and media can monitor unimpeded,” the spokesperson said to the regional channel.
