Without a doubt, The Mask is a classic by Jim Carrey where humor meets the technical innovations of the time.
The Mask, a film from the comic created by John Arcudi and Doug Mahnke, which came to the screen in 1994, achieving great collection both nationally and worldwide. Years later, publisher Mike Richardson created the company Dark Horse Entertaiment to adapt comics and bring them to life.
This feature film directed by Chuck Russell (Paradise City, I am Vengeance) tells the story of an ancient mask that is capable of transforming people with superhuman powers, in this case, a monotonous bank employee played by Jim Carrey.
Undoubtedly, not an easy idea to be taken to the big screen. It is here where Chuck Russell, the film’s director, demonstrated all his talent. With only two films behind him and six years without getting behind a camera, he has managed to position himself as the best person to adapt it. It is also worth noting the great post-production, essential to maintain The Mask, being the year 1994 and showing the great visual effects.
Regarding the script, little can be said since it is quite attached to the times set by the comic itself. It has a plot full of black humor and action being contemplated throughout the entire film. For example, in the scene where he is arrested by the police, showing the double face of the character, the personal face and the transformed face, or even in the final scene when they are about to enter the casino with the dog. It is worth noting how well executed the soundtrack is and the different voice effects caused by the use of the mask.
Distribution to the height
The mask not only has a good script, but also a spectacular cast. How we have already advanced before is starring Jim Carrey who puts the weight of the film on his back. He never disappoints and shines constantly, unleashing all his unmistakable grace and gestures. For their part, Cameron Diaz and Peter Greene, giving life to the bride and the antagonist, emerge in their characters, creating their own and giving them a special touch.
