Box office forecasts for the sequel to Shazam! they are coming true, unfortunately for the entire team involved in the film. Shazam! The Fury of the Gods didn’t have the best of opening weekends, but it could still salvage the furniture if it held within certain margins in its second round at the box office.
But it could not have been: the film of DC Comics starring pro Zachary Levi has slumped at the US box office and has fallen 68%, garnering one of the worst second weekends in all of DC. The film raises its collection to some shy $102.4 million worldwide.
Shazam 2 is second only to the fall of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Suicide Squad.
Despite the fact that Shazam! The fury of the gods is not a movie conceived to be a huge blockbuster, the greatest effort of the film of David F. Sandberg Compared to the 2019 film, Warner had higher expectations about its profitability.
A succession of hardships for Shazam! The fury of the gods
But the storm surrounding DC Studios and the future of the DC Universe under the rule of James Gunn y Peter Safranas well as that controversy with Dwayne Johnson about the cameo the actor rejected in Shazam 2, have helped interest in the film wan even more.
Nor is it worth remembering the fatigue of the superhero genre that affects, mainly, Marvel and DC Comics, causing there to be less interest in seeing the productions of both studios.
Zachary Levi he returned as Shazam in the sequel, but it remains to be seen if the actor will continue to retain the role well into the future of the DC Universe. The original idea was for him to continue, but this stumble in the film leaves the plans with the actor in the air.
Shazam! The Fury of the Gods continues this week at the box office, but it seems very unlikely that it will rise enough to make a profit on its production budget of between 110 and 125 million, not counting the marketing budget.
