The House of EL anticipates James Gunn and proposes its perfect candidates to be the new Calvin Ellis Superman
The superhero industry has been in constant evolution in recent years, and DC Comics is not going to be the exception. Featuring the acclaimed director’s choice James Gunn (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’) to lead the future of the DCU, many questions have arisen about the future of the publisher’s iconic characters.
We refer to the vast majority of characters and actors who were already in the old DCEU, and among them the Man of Steel, one of the most popular. The novelty is that Gunn has made the decision to open the possibility that an actor of another ethnicity, in addition to the white Caucasian, can play him.
But, in addition, it is also rumored that DC Studios is looking for an African-American actor to play the Man of Steel in a hypothetical movie about the character that would be based on the black Superman of the current DC Comics continuity, Calvin Ellis.
Among the candidates who have sounded the strongest for this role are Michael B. Jordan, John Boyega, Aldis Hodge, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Idris Elba and Jonathan Majors.
We leave you with the images of our particular casting carried out by the Artificial Intelligence Midjouney and Leonardo Ai.
The 6 candidates to play Calvin Ellis’ Superman
01/06
Michael B. Jordan (36) has been a fan favorite to play the next man of tomorrow, and it’s not hard to see why. The actor has several memorable roles to his credit, including his portrayal of Killmonger in ‘Black Panther’. In addition, he has proven to be a versatile actor committed to inclusion and diversity in Hollywood. And he’s Kryptonian God level muscle thanks to his role in the ‘Creed’ saga.
02/06
John Boyega (31) is the youngest actor of those proposed. He is another actor with a large presence in the film industry, he is known for his role as Finn in the latest ‘Star Wars’ trilogy and for his participation in ‘Pacific Rim’. Boyega has spoken on several occasions about the importance of representation in film, which makes him a natural candidate to play the character.
03/06
Aldis Hodge (36) is another of the candidates that has sounded strong. The actor has been seen in some of the most interesting productions in recent years, including ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘Straight Outta Compton’. Hodge also has experience in superhero movies, after participating in ‘Black Adam’ as Hawkman.
04/06
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (36), who recently played ‘Black Manta’ in ‘Aquaman’, also sounds like one of the candidates to play Superman. The actor has a very good screen presence, and could be an interesting choice for the role of Kal-El.
05/06
Idris Elba (50) is one of the most outstanding performers of his generation, and it is not difficult to imagine him in the role of Superman. The actor has a wide range of roles, including his portrayal of Heimdall in the MCU Thor movies. His presence in the cinema would be a great attraction for the next film and a good jump between franchises.
Obviously, Elba wouldn’t be eligible to be a new Clark Kent, since he doesn’t fit the role of a young Clark looking for Gunn, but as Calvin… Perfect!
06/06
Jonathan Majors (33) is the second youngest candidate of those who have sounded to play the character. The actor, known for his role in HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country’, could bring a fresh new twist to the character, as well as being an interesting choice for the future of the DC Cinematic Universe.
But most importantly, he is the current Kang in the MCU, which would make it very difficult for him to be Calvis. It would be a dream, as many fans vehemently reason that Majors would be perfect for the role.
Inclusion and diversity in the superhero universe
The choice of an African-American actor to play a variant of Man of Steel, like the original, could represent a great step forward in inclusion and diversity in the film and entertainment industry. The fact that DC Comics is willing to explore new directions and versions of its characters represents a great opportunity for new audiences to approach this universe.
Obviously, there will be many others who cry out to heaven for this insult, but times change and so do the spectators. The future of the new DCU looks bright with Gunn and Peter Safran leading the way.
The choice of the next actor to play the Man of Steel will be closely watched by fans, and by any of the actors mentioned above, as they could be an interesting choice for the role.
