David F. Sandberg, the director of the Shazam sequel, explains himself on Twitter and reveals that he already did the same with Henry Cavill
The news has been revealed on the social network Twitter and has caused quite a stir among fans of Wonder Woman. The actress Taylor Cahill has been used to replace Gal Gadot as the famous heroine in some sequences of ‘Shazam: The Fury of the Gods’, thanks to the use of CGI.
David F. Sandbergthe director of the sequel to ‘Shazam’, has explained that Gadot could not get to Atlanta to shoot the necessary scenes and that he turned to Cahill to replace her. The decision has generated some controversy among fans, even more so after learning that Gadot might not continue playing the character in the new DCUunder the direction of James Gunn and Peter Safranhead of DC Studios.
The use of CGI to replace actors is not something new in the cinema, but its use in this case has generated a strong reaction from fans.
Some argue that the substitution of Gadot for Cahill is disrespectful towards the actress and towards the fans who have followed her interpretation of the character, others are hallucinated by the situation of having to fit all the pieces together when editing the film. Others ironize that Warner Bros. is saving a few thousand dollars with this. Anything to generate controversy.
The same method was used with Cavill for his cameo as Superman in the first Shazam movie.
This has been known thanks to the updated cast list, since it revealed that Cahill will appear as a fake Wonder Woman. But this is not new, since the director has revealed that used the same technique for Cavill’s cameo as Man of Steel in the original film.
In the first film, Cavill was replaced by another actor in a brief post-credits scene. He was unable to reprise his role due to scheduling issues, so Cavill was unable to attend the shoot. Instead, double the action of Zachary Levi, Ryan Handleywas summoned for filming to put on the Man of Steel uniform and replace him.
Subsequently, the CGI technique to hide the double’s face and replace it in the final edit of the film. Although the truth is that only Kal-El’s body could be seen, with which it is not that Cavill could be seen much either.
