What about the new Star Wars movie? Lucasfilm’s plans are still stuck and it doesn’t seem like they’re going to move forward.
Star Wars has announced serious changes to its new movie. Above the Line has revealed that both Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson have dropped out of the next Star Wars movie, which they were both initially going to write ahead of its 2025 release.
The two reportedly delivered a rough draft of the Star Wars movie to Disney and Lucasfilm in mid-February. But they abandoned the project only a few days later. Apparently, Lucasfilm already has a new screenwriter for this mysterious filmalthough the name has not yet been revealed.
This new story, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, director of Ms. Marvel, is scheduled to begin production in February 2024. Its premiere is scheduled for next December 19, 2025. Jeff Sneider, a journalist for Above the Line, has also clarified on Twitter that Obaid-Chinoy is still on the shortlist to direct the film and that it will still be Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars film.
The project is in a dangerous situation
Lucasfilm
Even considering that this star wars movie for 2025 already has a new writer, it is still disconcerting to know that its original writers ended up leaving their work unfinished. Especially with Damon Lindelof’s credentials and the passion he showed for this post-Skywalker Saga adventure. This project was creating great excitement as fans of the Lucasfilm franchise awaited his return to the big screen.
Damon Lindelof was originally hired for the Star Wars project in March 2022. A fact that only leads to a series of questions about why he and Justin Britt-Gibson left the movie so abruptly less than a year before it was scheduled to start production. And while Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is nothing to sneeze at after her impressive success with the MCU… Now she’s the only creative attached to Lucasfilm’s first Star Wars movie in what may have been six years.
