MOSCOW – The Steregushchiy-class corvette is a multirole vessel built by the JSC Severnaya Verf shipyard as well as the Amur shipbuilding plant for the Russian Navy. This corvette is intended to replace the Grisha class corvettes.
The Steregushchiy class is used in coastal patrol, escort and anti-submarine warfare operations. It is known, the ship can also engage surface ships, submarines, aircraft as well as shore-based targets.
The Steregushchiy corvettes were launched in May 2006, then underwent trials in November 2006. The Steregushchiy class ships were designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. The corvette incorporates a steel hull, a composite superstructure and a spherical bow.
The hull is divided into nine watertight subdivisions. The ship is also equipped with stealth technology which significantly reduces the detection of the ship’s radar.
The ship, which is 105 meters long and 13 meters wide, has a maximum speed of 27 notes. In addition, the ship can also carry 100 personnel including maintenance crew. Ships of this class feature the Sigma combat information management system.
The system gathers information from radars as well as sensors which provides situational awareness.
It also enables the ship to exchange intelligence with other seaborne units in the battle group.
The ship is armed with a combination of Kh-35 missile systems and 3M-54 Klub missiles. Two anti-aircraft systems provide close air defense against anti-ship missiles, aircraft and surface targets.
The main gun mounted forward of the ship is the A-190 100mm Arsenal naval gun.
Two AK-630M 30mm automatic gun mounts are also installed on board. It is known, the AK-630M can fire up to 5,000 rounds per minute for a maximum range of 5 kilometers.
The Steregushchiy class corvettes are powered by a combined diesel and diesel propulsion system (CODAD). Four 16D49 diesel engines develop a total power output of 23,320 horsepower.
Four on-board diesel sets generate 2,520 Kw of electricity for ship lighting. The ship with a cruising range of 4,000 miles has an endurance at sea for 15 days.
