American skier Mikaela Shiffrin has closed a historic season for her with a victory in the giant slalom at the World Cup in Andorra. It was the 88th World Cup victory for Shiffrin, who was already certain of victory in the overall World Cup and also in the giant slalom.
Shiffrin (28) made history this winter by becoming the absolute record holder for the number of World Cup victories. She passed Swedish ski legend Ingemar Stenmark, who had won 86 World Cup victories in his career.
On the slopes of Soldeu, she left the Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund and the Canadian Valerie Grenier behind in her last competition of the season. Shiffrin also won three medals at the World Championships earlier this winter, including gold in the giant slalom.
