The 23-year-old from Trentino gives the men’s sector the first world title after 24 years
The second day of the short track World Championships in Seoul is colored in blue. In the Mokdong Icerink Pietro Sighel (Fiamme Gialle) was the protagonist of an extraordinary double: first he conquered the silver in the 1500m, beaten only by the Korean Park Ji-Won.

The twenty-three year old from Baselga di Piné has improved on the 500m mark. His last lap was a scream, which allowed him to climb from third to first position which brings the first individual world title of the 21st century to the Italian men’s sector (the last one was Fabio Carta, gold in the 1500s in 1999).

On the 500 meters, the adventure of Andrea Cassinelli (Fiamme Gialle) and Thomas Nadalini (Fiamme Oro) ended in the repechage. It went better for Luca Spechenhauser (CS Carabinieri) and Tommaso Dotti (Fiamme Oro) in the 1,500m, as both reached the semifinal. Semifinals that represented an insurmountable obstacle for Arianna Sighel and Gloria Ioriatti (both Fiamme Oro) in the context of the 1,500 women. The two Italians, having surrendered to more popular opponents, nevertheless gained access to Final B, finished respectively in fifth place (Sighel) and in sixth place (Ioriatti). Elisa Confortola (Fiamme Oro) was eliminated in the repechage. The women’s 500m settled along the lines of the 1,500m. Arianna Valcepina (Fiamme Gialle) and Arianna Sighel hoisted themselves up to the semifinal, where they could do nothing against stronger rivals. Eliminated in the quarterfinals Chiara Betti (Fiamme Gialle).
