WASHINGTON – Seymour Hersh, legendary investigative journalist United States of America (USA), laying out the theory for what he sees as complete stupidity in foreign policy on the part of American officials.
He told China’s state broadcaster CTGN that he believed Washington officials were consumed by hatred for the Russian president Vladimir Putin until they stumble upon a bad decision.
Hersh, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who reported last month that US President Joe Biden ordered the sabotage of the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline last fall, called the alleged plot one of Washington’s stupidest decisions in years.
However, he argues, the blunder does not reflect a lack of intelligence among top officials in the Biden administration, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
“The top administration officials (Biden) all have high levels of intelligence, a lot of it,” said Hersh.
“That’s what drives them, I think, the hatred of everything especially Putin, and also of communism itself. They are very cool warriors, they are really unusual. It makes them do stupid things.”
The White House dismissed Hersh’s shocking report of the Nord Stream explosion, calling it total fiction.
The New York Times, for which Hersh did award-winning work on reporting on the Watergate scandal and other reporting as a star reporter in the 1970s, claimed earlier this month that “pro-Ukrainian groups” were behind the Nord Stream attack.
The report cites unidentified US officials.
