BEIJING – China ready to strengthen cooperation with the military Russia to uphold justice, peace and international security together. This was revealed by a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of China Tan Kefei.
The announcement came after a summit between President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Moscow earlier this month. The two countries’ leaders reaffirmed the principles of partnership between their countries, and agreed to enhance bilateral relations and military coordination.
According to Tan, China is willing to work with the Russian military to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state.
“That includes further strengthening strategic communication and coordination,” he added as quoted from RT, Thursday (30/3/2023).
The diplomat stated that the two countries plan to regularly organize joint sea and air patrols, as well as hold exercises and strengthen various other areas of cooperation.
According to Tan, the aim is to deepen military mutual trust with Russia to help ensure international justice and make new contributions to international and regional security.
“It will serve the building of a community with a shared future for humanity,” he stressed.
Tan noted the increasingly strong ties between Moscow and Beijing, but insisted they were not the same as a Cold War style military-political alliance. According to the spokesperson, ties go beyond this model of country relations and are non-aligned, non-confrontational and non-targeting of third countries in nature.
Meanwhile, the United States (US) called the growing relationship between Russia and China “deeply troubling”. The officials also described China as a “challenge”, with the Pentagon asking for a 2024 defense budget of up to $842 billion.
During his press conference, Tan argued that China is a builder of world peace and a contributor to global development. On the contrary, he claimed that the US uses its huge defense budget – the highest in the world – to wage wars and create chaos everywhere, thus making it the greatest threat to world peace, security and stability.
