The president in New York for the “Change the World” event: “About two hundred projects in 20 years starting from sport but going beyond”
Paolo Scaroni’s New York trip ends in the famous glass building of the United Nations. In fact, the AC Milan president took part in the closing ceremony of the event, organized by the Diplomatic Association: “Change the World, Model United Nations” which involves more than 5,000 students from all over the world to discuss geopolitics and transition energy. After Saturday’s informal but much appreciated meeting by the New York fan base with the fans of the Milan Club New York, Scaroni then returns to his official role talking about energy, geopolitics and the Milan Foundation in the legendary hall of the General Assembly of the UN. “The war in Ukraine naturally has a great impact on Europe and its energy choices – the Rossoneri president underlines – after having imported Russian gas for 50 years, we are now looking for alternatives that can replace European needs, around 1/3 comes from Russia, and we are opening up to new markets such as Algeria and Libya. We are still far behind in terms of renewable energies, we have spent a lot in the last 20 years but at the moment only 3% of energy consumption comes from renewables. We are really at the beginning, of the start of the energy transition and we need to shift gears if we want to reach “net zero” by 2050″.
Positive messages
—
Geopolitics and energy, themes dear to Paolo Scaroni, naturally due to his personal history, but in closing we also talk about the Milan Foundation. “Football is the most popular sport in the world – concluded the AC Milan Chairman in his speech at the United Nations – and we know we can have an impact on billions of fans, especially the youngest, thanks to the positive messages of this sport. over the last 20 years, the Milan foundation has produced around 200 projects, not only in Milan, our home, but also in places like Calcutta, Nairobi, Rio and even in Ukraine.Projects naturally linked to the world of sport but with a much deeper value For example, we don’t just want to build a soccer field in Calcutta, our goal is to educate and accompany the sporting growth of whoever that garment will then use”.
