The green light goes off in Mandalika for Race 1 of WSBK 2023, with the reigning championto Alvaro Bautista who in the first five laps is behind Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) and then completes the attack in turn 15, in which the Spaniard he takes the lead going on to win the race. Razgatlioglu tries to reply but Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) manages to pass him in turn 10 to then be overtaken in turn by the 2021 world champion.
For Bautista and Ducati this is the first victory at Mandalika, and the fourth in the 2023 championship out of four races held. Razgatlioglu extends on Bassani who seems to be in trouble from the middle of the race and is passed by Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK), started from the second box. The Lombard overtook the Venetian on lap 11 in turn 10 and conquered his second podium of the season.
Bassani is struggling with Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) for fourth place. The two pass and repass each other in turn 12 and in turn 16. Lowes then towards the middle of the race is also passed by Daniel Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) who with this fifth place scores his best result in WorldSBK. Sixth position for Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team).
