MOSCOW – An analyst Russia recently on state television confirmed that the President of China Xi Jinping is preparing for a future war with the West.
The statement appeared on Russian news programs and was shared on social media by Russian Media Monitor, a watchdog group dedicated to reporting state-controlled news, on Friday.
According to the group’s founder, Julia Davis, the discussion in the video deals with China’s possible military assistance to Russia amid the country’s ongoing war with Ukraine, and how that could be affected by China’s recent peace proposals for the conflict.
Late last month, the Chinese government put forward a 12-point plan to end the conflict in Ukraine. While the plan contains several provisions that would benefit Ukraine, including calls to respect the sovereignty of all countries involved, it also contains provisions that could lead to the plan being scrapped entirely. Notably, the plan does not call for Russian troops to withdraw from Ukraine, and does not call for the Kremlin to relinquish Ukrainian land it has sought to annex in the midst of the conflict.
“Meanwhile in Russia: experts discuss China’s peace proposals and ways in which Chinese military assistance to Russia might be provided covertly,” Davis tweeted last Friday.
“They confirmed that Xi Jinping is preparing China for a war against the West in the future,” he continued as quoted by Newsweek, Sunday (5/3/2023).
At the start of the video, Nikolai Vavilov, a China expert of Russian origin, is asked to comment on Beijing’s intentions with its peace proposal. Eventually, the conversation turned to the always hostile relationship between Beijing and the United States, which Vavilov claimed Xi Jinping had been preparing for war since taking office more than a decade ago.
“Since coming to power, comrade Xi has been preparing for war,” Vavilov said.
“He gave orders to prepare troops capable of winning the war. Xi Jinping has no doubts about the plans of the Americans,” he added.
