MOSCOW – International organizations should see reports of radioactive materials being sent to the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odessa.
This call was made by a spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) Maria Zakharova on Wednesday (1/3/2023).
Maria Zakharova voiced concern about the shipment which allegedly took place near the breakaway Transnistria region from Moldova.
“Ukraine has deliberately stirred up tensions in the region,” he stressed.
According to unconfirmed claims that appeared on social media last week, a ship carrying containers of Californium-252, a synthetic radioactive element, arrived in Odessa on February 19.

The radioactive monitoring system is also claimed to have been turned off during the dismantling process.
Zakharova cited reports that the cargo was supplied by Ohio-based Frontier Technology Corporation.
The spokesperson also cited allegations that, on February 16, unnamed radioactive material was delivered to the port city of Chernomorsk, near Odessa, “from the territory of one of the European countries.”
It is suspected that the shipment was not subject to customs control.
