The ruling on fasting before Ramadan has been explained by Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief on his YouTube channel, TrendQuran.
Not only the heart must be clean from worldly feelings such as envy and jealousy, Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief said that the body must also be clean from all dirt and uncleanness.
“Basically, entering the holy month of Ramadan not only prepares our hearts to be clean from all world’s problems whether it’s envy, jealousy, hostility and so on, we have to let go of that,” said Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief.
“But besides that, in a Zahir way, we also have to be clean from uncleanness or major hadas, including friends who have committed sins, it is sunnah to take a bath before entering the holy month of Ramadan,” continued Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief.
Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief said that it is not obligatory to take a fasting bath, which is done before Ramadhan, it is called a repentance bath.

However, for someone who before entering the month of Ramadan has a husband and wife relationship, he must do a mandatory bath or junub bath.
The Intention of Bathing Fasting Before Ramadan
Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief said that the procedure for taking a fasting bath ahead of Ramadan is actually the same as taking a mandatory bath.
The difference between the fasting bath before Ramadan and the obligatory bath in general lies only in the intention.
The recitation of the intention to take a bath before Ramadan is Nawaitul ghusla lit-taubati’an jami’iz jubini lillahi ta’aalaa.
“The editor reads the intention to take a bath of repentance or take a bath before fasting Ramadhan, namely Nawaitul ghusla lit-taubati’an jami’iz zunubi lillahi ta’aalaa,” explained Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief.
The following is the recitation of the intention of fasting before Ramadan, complete with Arabic and Latin writing, and its meaning:
Arabic Latin: Nawaitul ghusla lit-taubati’an jami’iz sabini lillahi ta’aalaa.
Meaning: “I deliberately intend to bathe in repentance from all sins because of Allah Taala.”
Procedure for Fasting Bath Before Ramadan
On his YouTube channel, Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief also explains how to take a fasting bath ahead of Ramadan.
The following is the procedure for taking a fasting bath ahead of Ramadan which is correct in Islam.
1. Reading intentions, can be read at the beginning (not the Syafi’i school) and can be read when you want to pour water on your head (Syafi’i school).
2. Wash your hands by reciting basmallah in your heart.
3. Wash your hands, genitals, then wash your hands again.
4. Ablution.
5. Wipe the water on the head and after that flush the water all over the body.
6. Make sure the whole body is wet with water and clean from feces.
Then to get forgiveness from Allah SWT. for all the sins we have committed, Ustadz Zulbiadi Latief said that we are encouraged to perform repentance prayers after taking a fast bath ahead of Ramadan.
